Welcome to Year 6, home of great thinkers and learners.

We had an amazing trip to the Isle of Wight. We were very proud of the children - they were fantastic, even in the wind and rain! Watch this space for photographs from the trip - they are on a variety of cameras and tablets, but we will upload them and share them in our forthcoming Isle of Wight assembly (Thursday 2nd May)

This term, we are continuing to enjoy our whole class text, 'The Explorer', and much of our writing makes links between this, our supporting text 'The Promise' and our learning journey 'Amazing Amazon'.  We will soon begin our science journey, Evolution and Inheritance, which will provide us with the opportunity to make cross-curricular links as we study adaptation and natural selection linked to the plants and animals of the rainforest. We have all enjoyed creating models of the rainforest and learning about the different layers and the life within them.

Although up to this point Year 6 hasn't been all about SATs, we are fast approaching SATs week, and we are currently doing our very best to equip and prepare your children so that they go into their tests feeling confident and positive. We have spoken to the children about them being responsible for their own revision and study time at home, and many of you have already bought revision books to support them. Little and often is the key, along with plenty of rest and relaxation, of course!

In  our maths lessons, we have been revising area and perimeter and volume, and working on ratio and proportion. We would continue to encourage the children to access MyMaths at home, whilst regularly practising on Times Table Rockstars.

Once again, we thank you for all your support.

PE  is currently on a Monday, but kit may be needed at other times so please make sure you always have a PE kit in school.

 - The children are expected to read regularly at home (at least 3 times a week).  Any extra reading will be rewarded with house points. This can be recorded in their planners until the new reading journals are distributed.

 - the children are working on spelling rules and strategies for proof reading their work to identify errors.  This is helping them become more independent in their learning. From time to time children may bring spellings home to practise.

 - Arithmetic and mental maths tests will take place in school on a Friday. Times tables knowledge is crucial to support them with this.  They can use 'Times Tables Rock Stars' in school and at home to help them with instant recall of all the facts up to the 12 times table.

Bug Club
can be used by the children in school or at home and is a great resource to support reading. Please ask the class teacher if you need  a reminder of the user name and password for your child.
