This term the children in Year 4 are discovering all about the Roman invasion of the British Isles as part of their learning journey 'Roman Remains'.  The children have been finding out about how the Roman Empire spread across Europe with their army, eventually invading Britain.  Both Year 4 classes have studied the Romans' strategy and tactics, designed and made their own shields and finally staged their own showdown between the defending Celts and advancing Roman soldiers. The winter sun glinted off the gleaming shields as both sides practised Roman army formations such as the Tortoise and Wedge.  It was a brave teacher who stood between the two fearsome sides!  Roman Remains has a more gruesome aspect to come, as the children will dissect "Roman poo" to discover what Romans ate and how our digestive systems work.  The children are really excited about their forthcoming trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace and having a Roman banquet back at school, as a finale to their ancient learning journey.
